Researchers from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) at Cyprus Institute had a successful showing at the European Meteorological Society (EMS) Annual Meeting 2023 held in Bratislava, Slovakia from 3 to 8 September 2023. The EMS2023 poster award winner is Theo Economou from Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C), with a poster presenting Life SIRIUS work by him and his colleagues: Daphne Parliari (Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics, Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece), Jonilda Kushta also (CARE-C, Cyprus) and Jos Lelieveld (CARE-C, Cyprus and Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz, Germany).

The poster ‘Quantifying the synergy of environmental stressors on human mortality‘ considers the compound effects of heat and air pollution on mortality. Theodoros Economou and his colleagues took a novel approach to investigate a growing societal problem in this study.
